Power of Attorney (POA)
Power of Attorney (POA) enables the applicant living abroad to appoint a person or organization from abroad to manage his/her property or affairs in Bangladesh. Power of Attorney is processed in accordance with the ‘The Power of Attorney Act-2015’. POA executant(s) and recipient(s) MUST read ‘Power of Attorney Act-2015’ carefully prior to initiating the application process.
Required Documents for POA
i) Valid Bangladesh Passport (Valid passport in possession is mandatory) of the Executant.
ii) Canadian photo ID (Valid- Passport/PR card/Study Permit/Work Permit) of the Executant.
iii) Valid Bangladesh Passport/National ID/17-digit Birth Certificate of the Recipient .
iv) 45mmX35mm recent (not older than 6 months) photograph of the Executant and Recipient with white background.
v) Copy of ownership documents (Khatian/Tax document/Mutation/copy of the main deed) of the property or affairs to be given.
vi) If the Executant does not own the property or his/her name is not reflected (written) in the ownership document, the Executant should submit/send Succession Certificate to prove his/her inheritance to the property.
vii) Signed and Notarised copy of the POA completed as per 'Schedule-Ka, Form-3 of the 'Power of Attorney Rules - 2015' OR Unsigned POA completed as per 'Schedule-Ka, Form-3 of the 'Power of Attorney Rules - 2015'. The Seal and Signature of the Notary Public of Canada needs prior Attestation from the Global Affairs Canada or authorised Provincial Ministry before submission to the Consulate. Recent (not older than 6 months) photograph(s) of the Executant and Recipient with white background must be affixed with the main POA document.
[Applicant (Executant) may send the notarised and signed POA (original) by post (with a trackable return envelope) to the Consulate for authentication OR Applicant (Executant) should bring unsigned POA to the Consulate for signing before the Consular Agent and the witness(s) (if any) must be present and sign during signing of the document. Applicant does not require to upload the notarised or unsigned POA during online application.]
viii) If the applicant wishes to add any information/comments/documents in support of his/her application, may upload online as an additional document.
ix) Online Payment/Bank Draft/Money Order/Certified cheque or to be paid in person by Debit/Credit Card.

Step 1: BDCG Online Application

A confirmation page will be generated and a copy of that will be sent to the applicant’s e-mail, please print and sign the confirmation page.
Applicant must submit documents either in-person or by post to the Consulate General within the 90 days of online application. Failure to submit/send document(s) within 90 days will result in automatic expiration/deletion of BDCG Online Application from the Digitised Consular Service System (DCSS). There will be no refund of fees for such expiration/deletion.
Step 2: Document Submission
POA to be signed before the Consular Agent:
Applicant should bring i) signed confirmation page ii) set of unsigned POA completed as per Schedule-Ka, Form-3 of the Power of Attorney Act-2015 and iii) Online payment/Bank Draft/Money Order/Certified Cheque or pay by Debit/Credit card in person (if not paid online) during in-person submission.
- 'Principal' (power giver) must sign the POA in front of the 'Consular Agent' at the Consulate.
- The witness(s) must be present with the 'Principal' (power giver) while signing the document in front of the Consular Agent.
Notarised POA to be Attested:
Applicant should send or submit i) signed confirmation page ii) a set of Notarised POA attested by Canadian Authoritycompleted as per 'Schedule-Ka, Form-3 of the Power of Attorney Act-2015' iii) Online payment or Bank Draft/Money Order/Certified Cheque or may pay by Debit/Credit card in-person at the consular counters.
By Post: Please send a self-addressed trackable return envelope with the documents to Consular Section, Bangladesh Consulate General, 2235 Sheppard Ave. East (Atria II), Suite # 1505, Toronto, ON M2J 5B5, Canada. Applications sent by post must reach to the Consulate General directly, no application will be collected from the post office or courier service. Applications received without trackable return envelope will not be processed.
In-Person: Applicant must be present at the Consulate General as per online appointment scheduled for in person submission. Booked appointment can be rescheduled/managed by login to Your Application and selecting 'Manage Appointment'.
Step 3: Paying Fees
Government fees for 'POA' is C$ 40.00 (Regular - 5 working days) and C$ 60.00 (Express- 3 working days) for up to 5 pages; C$ 70.00 (Regular) or C$ 100.00 (Express) for up to 8 pages and additional C$ 5.00 for each page above 8 pages, for details please see Consular Fees. Applicant may pay online- a transaction receipt will be e-mailed to cardholder’s email OR through Bank Draft/Postal Order addressed to the “Bangladesh Consulate General in Toronto” or pay by Debit/Credit card at the service counter of the Consulate. As soon as the application is received- a payment receipt will be e-mailed to applicant’s email.

Step 4: Processing
Consular Agent will examine the documents and process.
Step 5: Disposal
By post: Attested POA will be sent to the return address.
In-person: To collect the attested POA in-person, applicant may come to the Consulate on the date of delivery mentioned in the payment receipt.
Special note:
- Incomplete Application will not be processed.
- Bangladesh Consulate General reserves the right to request for any additional document at any stage of the application process.
- Bangladesh Consulate General reserves the right to withhold any application for further examination.
- Bangladesh Consulate General reserves the right to reject/cancel any application at any stage of the processing.
- If requires, Bangladesh Consulate General may request applicant for in-person interview.
- Consular fee paid to the Consulate General is non-refundable.
